Kennemervis Group’s home base is in the former fishing village of Spakenburg. Once started as fishermen in Katwijk, today supplier of a wide range of fresh, frozen and pre-processed fish and veg products. A multifaceted company with passionate employees spread over several branches in the Netherlands and Denmark. Every week, these employees serve 6.5 million moments of consumption. With this passion, knowledge and natural respect for people, sea and nature, the Kennemervis Group wants to make fish and veg products more accessible to an even wider group of consumers and markets, now and in the near future.
Challenge
Growth, supply chain integration and organizational developments require a state-of-the-art ERP landscape. This should on the one hand replace the current dated landscape but on the other be a big step forward. In order to better support and automate current business processes, get more out of the organization and be ready for the chain of the future. The ERP solution in this case is a first step and in this case only facilitates the change.
For the ERP, after a careful selection, Aptean Schouw’s Foodware solution with Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations at its base was chosen. Chainresult was asked for guidance; to organize, facilitate and implement the entire playing field, of functionality, data and process change. In addition, Chainresult provides the integral project management of this, mainly business-driven project.

To realize the above challenge, a start was made by visualizing the desired, future business design and related processes, in consultation with the management team and specialists. It was then chosen to contrast processes unique to the organization “with the Kennemervis Group DNA” against the capabilities of the future solution, via a Proof of Concept (PoC). In this PoC, the solution is partly set up with, in this case for the Kennemervis Group, business processes and data. This tests both the application and the team before beginning full implementation. Future users and decision makers can see live whether unique sub-processes, from order picking to delivery, are going to fit into the new solution. Compared to a classic blueprint and implementation, a PoC has a short lead time of several months, combined with a limited investment. During this phase Chainresult deployed its knowledge, experience and methodologies to achieve the desired result for the Kennemervis Group with all parties involved.
Project benefits
In addition to knowledge of the solution, the understanding of intended business processes improved, as well as how these processes can be supported by relevant systems. This phase was also used to involve, inform and secure the key stakeholders within the Kennemervis Group. In addition, the PoC demonstrated that in addition to the basics, key fish and business-specific processes can begin to be supported: “This is a big step forward.” In particular, food-specific features such as ingredient declarations, quality, as well as speed of fresh are amply supported. In addition, there is an extensive shell of applications that in the areas of EDI, Data, BI and Reports will increase insight and to be able to work more efficiently and realize business improvements, for example, shrinkage reduction. Chainresult successfully completed this phase in mid-May 2020.
Summary: The desired processes have a good fit with the intended solution and the degree of organizational change is insightful. In addition, a detailed plan of action was created based on a clearly defined scope for this implementation and realization including timing, dependencies and budget. There is broad acceptance within Kennemervis Group for a follow-up and it was decided to proceed with implementation from Q1 2021. Chainresult will also lead this implementation and take care of the business integration.
